Did you want me to offer advice on this?

I have been married for 8 months now and I'm really happy with the way things are going. Understandably we have minor arguments but they seem to be becoming more frequent. We disagree on small issues but I don't feel that they're small at the time. My husband suggested we should go to therapy but I think that is just very drastic and not necessary. I wondered if you could tell me at what point it is normal for couples to go to therapy?

It Depends

Hi Tzipi, Going for therapy is a good idea if you feel that the arguments are getting more and more out of control. Even if it is just to learn tools to help you to resolve your differences peacefully and constructively, that is a worthwhile goal. Going for therapy doesn't have to mean that your marriage is in danger or is failing, although it does sound like you are not heading in the right direction exactly. Have you discussed with your husband why he thinks you should go for therapy? Perhaps he feels like your communication as a couple is not working properly, in which case therapy can certainly help. Certainly you should discuss with him openly why he thinks you should go for therapy. I hope you can resolve your differences constructively and peacefully, Daniel Gefen MSc, Marriage and Family counsellor 0548439531 dgefen78@gmail.com
